Many parents find that riding in a car helps their baby sleep. This car ride white noise is a useful tool for helping soothe a crying, colicky infant.
According to Fatherly.com, new parents drive on average more than a thousand miles annually to put their babies to sleep (https://www.fatherly.com/health-science/why-driving-car-baby-sleep-womb/). One reason that driving helps a baby sleep is that the engine and road sounds resemble white noise heard in the womb. The driving sound also masks other distracting noises so that your baby can fall asleep and remain sleeping. Play the car sounds and share your baby sleep success stories below in the comments.
White noise is safe for infants and young children. You can learn more about this here: http://www.mybabysleepguide.com/2012/12/should-my-baby-sleep-with-white-noise.html
While playing white noise for babies, it’s important to keep tabs on the volume, because any white noise machine, smartphone, or computer can put out levels that are too loud for your child. It's recommended to play the car ride sound at least a few feet from where your infant is sleeping and to keep the volume no louder than the sound of a soft shower.
Parents can download an app to turn their smartphone into a sound level meter. One good, free, option is the sound level meter app created by the U.S. National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) available on the app store as the NIOSH SLM app.
